What is SIG Wheelchair & Seating?

SIG Wheelchair & Seating is a subcommittee of the Rehabilitation Engineering Society of Japan. “SIG” stands for Special Interest Group. Wheelchair SIG is an assembly of people who are interested and concerned with wheelchair development; they come together to enrich their knowledge and technical skills and to educate others.

Purpose and activities of SIG Wheelchair & Seating

In SIG Wheelchair & Seating, We consider the possibility of the problem solving for a wheelchair.
And, aiming at improvement of quality of a Japanese wheelchair, We are active in various ways.
For example, I carry out following activity.

  • Holding of a meeting for the study and class about wheelchair prescription.
  • Editing of a class text, publication.
  • Research about Japanese Industrial Standards of a wheelchair, ISO standard.
  • Daily doubt about a wheelchair and solution of problems.
  • Communication of a new wheelchair and part.
  • History investigation of a wheelchair.
  • Fact-finding of the circulation (payment by public money) of a wheelchair.
  • Research of a wheelchair engineering domain.
  • Information exchange of member aspect each other.
